What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than to party for a cause?  On Saturday, March 13th, Georgia will have an opportunity to do just that. Shamrockin for a Cure will be held at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes a variety of health problems, including difficulty breathing. Many patients are diagnosed by age 2, endure constant medical treatments to control their symptoms, then die of lung failure in their 30’s. CF affects about 30,000 children and adults in the U.S., making it one of the most common life-shortening hereditary diseases in America.

Currently there is no cure, but the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made great strides. Since 1955, the foundation has harnessed the efforts of thousands of volunteers, donors , researchers and doctors to improve quality of life and increase expected lifespan. The expected age of survival is currently 37, a dramatic improvement from the 1950’s, when most children with CF didn’t live long enough to attend Kindergarten.

Shamrockin for a Cure 2010 is your opportunity to have fun and help current and future Cystic Fibrosis patients and their families. This year’s goal is to raise $25,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  This second annual Shamrockin for a Cure is being organized by Chris and Mary Guiney, longtime friends of Pam and Jon Baker of Roswell. The Bakers’ sons Gavin and Jake both have cystic fibrosis.

The Irish and the Irish-at-Heart will enjoy food catered by Carmine’s plus complimentary beer, wine and vodka. Entertainment includes music from The Breakfast Club, RockBank Karaoke and Irish dancers. The silent auction offers tickets to the 2010 Emmys, a vacation in Ireland a room makeover from Vern Yip and a variety of other prizes from local restaurants and businesses.

Honda Carland has Budget Vehicles

The words “Cheap used cars“ are googled more and more these days! Atlanta’s Honda Carland has decided to allow our customers to purchase vehicles that we would have normally wholesaled. The Pre-Owned Manager at Honda Carland in Roswell states “It is just a sign of the economy, and people are trying to get by right now!” That being said, Honda Carland has over 30 vehicles that are “Budget Vehicles” . These budget vehicles are available to our customers, and will come with a Carfax or AutoCheck Vehicle Report. These vehicles have received a oil, lube, and filter change and the state required emissions inspection. Some of these vehicles do have a warranty that is available. Most of these vehicles will be older in year model and will have some miles on them. These vehicles are all located on www.hondacarland.com in the pre-owned inventory section. The vehicle listing will have the word “Budget” to help identify these cars, vans, trucks, and SUVs.

Just recently at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, there was an announcement made that hybrid models for the Acura nameplate are going to be built. Honda’s CEO Takanobu Ito said that the cars were in the works but did not give details as to what the models could be. Automated car washes are great because they are fast, and I always wondered about effectiveness of the upgradable wax option. I have tried a few times, but whenever I would run my finger across the paint, it would never smoothly glide like hand applied waxes. Just recently Honda Carland in Roswell, GA installed a waxing machine called the “Auto Butler”. Upon hearing about the Auto Butler I was very apprehensive, thinking that it will not come close to the effectiveness of a by-hand wax application. Well… I was wrong like many times! I place my own vehicle in the Auto Butler after it was cleaned. The machine covered my vehicle in a liquid, and then the rotating brushes covered every inch of the paint and glass. So, the real tests had to be administered. I ran my finger across the paint, and it glided just like the hand waxes. Not yet content with my latest revelation, I had to see how it worked in the rain. So driving up to New York for the Holidays afforded me rain, snow, and sleet in one trip. The windows repelled the water, and allowed the wipers to clear. The water beaded and streaked of the paint in the rain. So, I was forced to concede, wax can be applied by a machine. Who would have “Thunk”! Read more…

Acura is billing the ZDX as a 4-door sports coupe.  This may be confusing since the ZDX has more than 2 doors, and looks and feels like an SUV.  In fact the all new 2010 Acura ZDX is more of a cross-over than anything else.  We are at age where cars, SUV’s, trucks, and luxury sedans are all mixed into one vehicle.  And the Acura ZDX is a sleek and functional automobile that Acura is hoping will appeal to the world. It has been a tough year for most people ! 401ks, housing market, unemployment, and a 6 and 6 season for FSU. This year allowed many of us to look around, and truly be thankful to hang on to what we have. Mike Hearing started as a sales consultant at Honda Carland in Roswell about 9 years ago.  We all have meant the “Salt of the Earth” types, and Mike is one of those. Every year he would go buy bins and ask all the employees to bring in canned good items in November and toys in December. Mr Hearing would always buy at least 20 bikes and a truck load of turkeys - every year. This year we wanted to really make a difference! We all did and we all enjoyed giving. Read more…
