Some of the Acura line-up are subjected to some of the most extreme road tests. Motortrend visits Acura’s Winter testing site in Baudette, Minesota, which was once a forward observation point for the United States on the look out for Russian Bombers- thank God times have changed! Acura subjects the Acura ZDX , TL, and MDX through some of the most grueling tests. If you have questions in regards to the benefits of Super Handling All Wheel Drive and Vehicle Stability Assist- this is the video to watch. Keep in mind that Acura sends their vehicle designers teams to this track for 6-8 weeks to test systems, handling, environmental effects on Acuras. This year allowed many of us to look around, and truly be thankful to hang on to what we have. Mike Hearing started as a sales consultant at Honda Carland in Roswell about 9 years ago.  We all have meant the “Salt of the Earth” types, and Mike is one of those. Every year he would go buy bins and ask all the employees to bring in canned good items in November and toys in December. Mr Hearing would always buy at least 20 bikes and a truck load of turkeys - every year. This year we wanted to really make a difference! We all did and we all enjoyed giving.

This year was different, we really wanted to help out the families that have been struggling, we wanted to help make that Thanksgiving Day warmer, and that Christmas Morning more exciting. Bill Hughes the General Manager of the Carland Group wanted to have a customer appreciation night, and raffle off some prizes to help gain attendance. We all instantly wanted to make Hearing’s Food and Toy drive a part of this , so Mr Hughes decided to advertise to our customers to bring in canned food items in November and Toy Items in December. We would issue a raffle ticket for each food or toy item. Bill Hughes, Scott Henley, Kyle Campbell, and Keith Campbell agreed to provide 32′ Flat Screens for each event (6) on top of catering and other costs. We call some of our  vendors like Cars.com, Autotrader, and Aspen Marketing, and they all donated prizes to help make these event enticing to our customers.

It was a complete success. Honda Carland, Honda Carland North, and Acura Carland brought over 3,000 canned good items for the food drive. Mike Hearing personally donated over 30 turkeys again! These events were never about the raffle- it was about the food drive, and  the Carland Group was able to create a frenzy of giving! We had customers donating cases upon cases of  food. Several customers made cash donations, and others returned several days later with more food. They all got it- it was about making a difference in someone else’s life! The customers are the ones that made the true difference, by coming out on a weekday night, and particpating in an event that helped others that they did not even know! Thank you, and we truly appreciate the opportunity of meeting and talking with each of you!

So, we have 3 more events scheduled – these will all conincide with the 9th Annual Carland Toy Drive! Same premise, bring in unwrapped toys, and we will issue you one ticket for each toy! The Carland Group will sponsor prizes ranging up to a 32″ Flat Screen TV, catering, and other service promotions.  It is important for as many people to come and partipate! Please tell one and tell all! The kids will appreciate it . Have a wonderful Holiday Season, and please try to attend one of the following events!

A few weeks after Acura released a series of teaser images, Acura officially pulled the wraps off the concept version of the ZDX crossover at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. Interestingly, the previously released teaser shots actually show early production lighting elements, rather than those found on the NYIAS concept, but we’re told that, other than the lights, there are few changes between the concept and the ZDX that will roll into Acura showrooms this fall as a 2010 model.

Designed by 28-year-old Michelle Christensen (who was only 25 when she penned the first version of the vehicle), the five-passenger ZDX is based on the MDX platform and will be positioned above that seven-seater as a flagship within Acura’s lineup. Although Acura claims that the ZDX will introduce “an entirely new category of luxury vehicle,” no one will be able to help comparing it to that other four-door coupe crossover thingy, the BMW X6, although the ZDX’s ride height is markedly lower. Still, like the X6, it is none too dainty at 192.6 inches long, a vast 78.5 inches wide, and 61.8 inches tall. There are 108.5 inches between the centerlines of the 19-inch wheels, which are shod with 275/40-series Michelin Latitude tires.

Acura confirms that it will be powered by the same 300-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 that powers the MDX. The six will be mated to an all-new six-speed automatic with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. It will, of course, come standard with Acura’s nifty Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.

The interior of every ZDX will feature leather seating surfaces, and occupants will get plenty of light from above via the standard full-length glass roof. For lane changes—which undoubtedly will be hampered by those huge C-pillars—the ZDX will offer a blind-spot information system, as well as a multi-angle rear-view camera, surround-sound audio, navigation and, we imagine, a whole lot more if it is to, as Acura claims, achieve “a whole new level of prestige” for the brand. Customers will be able to see for themselves when the ZDX goes on sale this winter.
