More than an Oil Change!

The Carland Group would like to shed some light on common misconceptions. Often we hear customers say ” Just an Oil Change”, or they “just changed the oil.” The truth to the matter is an oil change is actually only one of the things we do when you bring your Honda or Acura to one of our local Atlanta Honda and Acura Service locations. Honda and Acura genuine Accessories are quite important here. The OEM oil filters contain much more medium, an anti-drainback valve, and a by-pass valve. The oil filter will actually close if it becomes clogged to help avoid engine oil deprivation. The Honda and Acura oil filter will also keep oil from draining completely out of your cylinders to avoid long-term engine damage from cold starts. On top of that the oil filter has a “P” Shape seal that will actually completely seal vs. many of the competitor’s flat seals that may cause oil leaks. Another thing our Honda and Acura Technicians do is replace your Drain Plug “Crush Washer”. What is a Crush Washer?-it is a one time use washer that will crush and seal when the oil pan drain bolt is fastened. The crush washer will protect the threads of your aluminum oil pn and help protect against leaks . Too often customers come in with damaged oil pans from other service shops that did not use a crush washer or reused the crush washer. On average an aluminum oil pan will cost about $500.00 to replace. Some shop will actually use a nonmailable metal washer that will not reduce torque pressure, and will still strip the threads on oil pan.

Acura and Honda Carland Service Centers also perform a multi-point inspection on your Honda or Acura. This form will rate the condition of your tires, brakes, and fluids. When you are ready to leave, our service advisors will review the sheet to bring you up to speed on your cars overall condition. This will help you to anticipate any needed future auto repairs or maintenance. Part of this inspection includes your braking system, tire wear, alignment inspection, and your battery condition. It is nice to know when you are on a trip that your brakes are at 80% , your tires have about 15,000 miles of tread, and your battery’s holding steady.

All 5000 mile services are considered EXPRESS , which will insure that you will be able to be in and out within 45 minutes. An entire technician team will complete your service, and will meticulously follow the Honda EXPRESS service guidelines. Wen you bring your Honda or Acura to Roswell, Duluth, or Alpharetta- we will even wash your Honda or Acura for you. It is very easy for an independent shop to tell you “You don’t need to, or they are over charging you, in fact, in most cases we are cheaper, but it seems that standard reply is that the dealer in some way is taking advantage of your needs. It is a common misunderstanding, but in reality- our service departments continually compare our prices with independents, and in most cases- the independent is replacing your oil filter, and that is it. When in fact – Carland Service is insuring that your Honda and Acura will receive the maintenance and care it deserves, and not short cutting to be a price leader. Our technicians are trained to specifically work on your Honda or Acura, and the Carland Group average tenure for a service technician is 4.9 years. Not bad!

Auto Butler

Automated car washes are great because they are fast, and I always wondered about effectiveness of the upgradable wax option. I have tried a few times, but whenever I would run my finger across the paint, it would never smoothly glide like hand applied waxes. Just recently Honda Carland in Roswell, GA installed a waxing machine called the “Auto Butler”. Upon hearing about the Auto Butler I was very apprehensive, thinking that it will not come close to the effectiveness of a by-hand wax application. Well… I was wrong like many times! I place my own vehicle in the Auto Butler after it was cleaned. The machine covered my vehicle in a liquid, and then the rotating brushes covered every inch of the paint and glass. So, the real tests had to be administered. I ran my finger across the paint, and it glided just like the hand waxes. Not yet content with my latest revelation, I had to see how it worked in the rain. So driving up to New York for the Holidays afforded me rain, snow, and sleet in one trip. The windows repelled the water, and allowed the wipers to clear. The water beaded and streaked of the paint in the rain. So, I was forced to concede, wax can be applied by a machine. Who would have “Thunk”!

So research must follow this ground-breaking discovery. The application is a two-step application process. The first visit Honda Carland cleans and removes all of the dirt from your vehicle. Then they run the vehicle through the Auto Butler. The first cycle administers a high-grade cleaner/polish. This will help remove any dirt and industrial contaminants. Next, the protection coat is applied to protect your paint from the enviornmental hazards and UV radiation. The brushes have over 20,000 soft finger-like cloths that push the polish into every nook and cranny. The nice thing, is you do not have to worry about swirl marks or buffer burn. The Auto Butler does have a warranty program that will cover additional applications. I strongly suggest checking this service out, since I’m a believer! A Great Success – the 2009 Carland Food Drive

It has been a tough year for most people ! 401ks, housing market, unemployment, and a 6 and 6 season for FSU. This year allowed many of us to look around, and truly be thankful to hang on to what we have. Mike Hearing started as a sales consultant at Honda Carland in Roswell about 9 years ago. We all have meant the “Salt of the Earth” types, and Mike is one of those. Every year he would go buy bins and ask all the employees to bring in canned good items in November and toys in December. Mr Hearing would always buy at least 20 bikes and a truck load of turkeys - every year. This year we wanted to really make a difference! We all did and we all enjoyed giving.

This year was different, we really wanted to help out the families that have been struggling, we wanted to help make that Thanksgiving Day warmer, and that Christmas Morning more exciting. Bill Hughes the General Manager of the Carland Group wanted to have a customer appreciation night, and raffle off some prizes to help gain attendance. We all instantly wanted to make Hearing’s Food and Toy drive a part of this , so Mr Hughes decided to advertise to our customers to bring in canned food items in November and Toy Items in December. We would issue a raffle ticket for each food or toy item. Bill Hughes, Scott Henley, Kyle Campbell, and Keith Campbell agreed to provide 32′ Flat Screens for each event (6) on top of catering and other costs. We call some of our vendors like Cars.com, Autotrader, and Aspen Marketing, and they all donated prizes to help make these event enticing to our customers.

It was a complete success. Honda Carland, Honda Carland North, and Acura Carland brought over 3,000 canned good items for the food drive. Mike Hearing personally donated over 30 turkeys again! These events were never about the raffle- it was about the food drive, and the Carland Group was able to create a frenzy of giving! We had customers donating cases upon cases of food. Several customers made cash donations, and others returned several days later with more food. They all got it- it was about making a difference in someone else’s life! The customers are the ones that made the true difference, by coming out on a weekday night, and particpating in an event that helped others that they did not even know! Thank you, and we truly appreciate the opportunity of meeting and talking with each of you!

So, we have 3 more events scheduled – these will all conincide with the 9th Annual Carland Toy Drive! Same premise, bring in unwrapped toys, and we will issue you one ticket for each toy! The Carland Group will sponsor prizes ranging up to a 32″ Flat Screen TV, catering, and other service promotions. It is important for as many people to come and partipate! Please tell one and tell all! The kids will appreciate it . Have a wonderful Holiday Season, and please try to attend one of the following events!

2009 Carland Food Drive!

The Carland Group would like to thank our customers for their past patronage. We will be hosting a Customer Appreciation Event at each of our dealerships in the Metro Atlanta Area. We will also be collecting canned goods and dry food items for less fortunate families in the Atlanta area. The Carland Group would like to invite everyone to particpate.

The Carland Group located in the Atlanta area, is focused on customer service. Every month Honda Carland, Honda Carland North, and Acura Carland host a “New Owner Clinic”. These clinics are designed to welcome customers to the Honda and Acura Family. We have found that customers often have questions regarding their vehicles well after delivery, and the owner clinics are a great source for information.

Every owner clinic is professionally catered, and last a little over an hour. Customers are introduced to key personnel at the dealership, and each department will discuss key information aimed at improving the customer’s ownership satisfaction. The service department will review recommended service schedules, key genuine parts, and they will answer any questions the customer may have in regards to their Honda or Acura!
