The Carland Group would like to shed some light on common misconceptions. Often we hear customers  say ” Just an Oil Change”, or they “just changed the oil.” The truth to the matter is an oil change is actually only one of the things we do when you bring your Honda or Acura to one of our local Atlanta Honda and Acura Service locations.  Honda and Acura genuine Accessories are quite important here. The OEM oil filters contain much more medium, an anti-drainback valve, and a by-pass valve. The oil filter will actually close if it becomes clogged to help avoid engine oil deprivation. The Honda and Acura oil filter will also keep oil from draining completely out of your cylinders to avoid long-term engine damage from cold starts. On top of that the oil filter has a “P” Shape seal that will actually completely seal vs. many of the competitor’s flat seals that may cause oil leaks. Another thing our Honda and Acura Technicians do is replace your Drain Plug “Crush Washer”. What is a Crush Washer?-it is a one time use washer that will crush and seal when the oil pan drain bolt is fastened. The crush washer will protect the threads of your aluminum oil pn and help protect against leaks . Too often customers come in with damaged oil pans from other service shops that did not use a crush washer or reused the crush washer. On average an aluminum oil pan will cost about $500.00 to replace. Some shop will actually use a nonmailable metal washer that will not reduce torque pressure, and will still strip the threads on oil pan.

Acura and Honda Carland Service Centers  also perform a multi-point inspection on your Honda or Acura. This form will rate the condition of your tires, brakes, and fluids. When you are ready to leave, our service advisors will review the sheet to bring you up to speed on your cars overall condition. This will help you to anticipate any needed future auto repairs or maintenance. Part of this inspection includes your braking system, tire wear, alignment inspection,  and your battery condition. It is nice to know when you are on a trip that your brakes are at 80% , your tires have about 15,000 miles of tread, and your battery’s holding steady.

All 5000 mile services are considered EXPRESS , which will insure that you will be able to be in and out within 45 minutes. An entire technician team will complete your service, and will meticulously follow the Honda EXPRESS service guidelines. Wen you bring your Honda or Acura to Roswell, Duluth, or Alpharetta- we will even wash your Honda or Acura for you.  It is very easy for an independent shop to tell you “You don’t need to, or they are over charging you, in fact, in most cases we are cheaper, but it seems that standard reply is that the dealer in some way is taking advantage of your needs. It is a common misunderstanding, but in reality- our service departments continually compare our prices with independents, and in most cases- the independent is replacing your oil filter, and that is it. When in fact – Carland Service is insuring that your Honda and Acura will receive the maintenance and care it deserves, and not short cutting to be a price leader. Our technicians are trained to specifically work on your Honda or Acura, and the Carland Group average tenure for a service technician is 4.9 years. Not bad!

Acura is coming off one of their most successful years ever. In 2010 the Acura TL brought home the top rating for IIHS Crash-test results. Automobile Magazine wrote “The Acura’s steering is lightening quick, with an overall ratio nearly as fast as a Mitsubishi Evo’s and its thick rim communicates more feedback to the driver, especially at the limit…”. Performance… well the 2011 TL starts at 280 HP, and ends at 305 HP. Also, if you haven’t had the chance to drive a TL, be sure to check out the TL SH-AWD.  The experts say “…the TL begs you to steer it with the throttle. The more power you add, the more neutral the TL’s balance and the faster its scrambles through the turns. Indeed, the Acura was faster than the Audi through nearly every single corner at BeaveRun.” -Automobile Magazine. The Acura TL in Atlanta would be able to handle 85, 75, 400, and an occasional qualifying round on spaghetti junction with room to spare.

Styling- Acura’s European design is like no other. The styling exudes confidence with its “Predator” front facies and wide stance, the TL is ready to play. I had the pleasure of driving a 2011 Acura TL at night. The dash cluster lights energize the driver. The Xenon High-Intensity Discharge lights cut through the darkness, and seem to guide the TL. The styling of the dash folds contour around the driver and passenger. The 2011 TL almost seems like it was built around their comfortable form fitting  seats.

2001 Acura MDX in Atlanta

The Acura MDX is a SUV with many firsts! The MDX was the first crossover SUV with third row seating! It is rumored that MDX stand for “Mullti-Dimensional Luxury”- whether that is true …?  The 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Acura MDX boasted 265 HP, and was the first truly sophisticated 4 WD System.  Variable Torque Management will actually anticpate wheel slippage, and through a series of electronics will adjust the balance of power between front and rear wheels!  A great test for this system, is to stop on a gravel drive way or parking lot, step on the gas and watch what happens… the MDX will interpret the loss of traction, adjust power distribution, and accelerate over the gravel without spraying the gravel all over the under-body! A conventional- well let’s just say- I hope that someone is not behind the vehicle! 2003 MDXs did receive a more structural and suspension modifications to improve the ride of the Acura MDX.  The 2003s also added about 20 more horsepower which helped distinguish it amongst the pack. In 2004 the Acura MDXs went to dual tail pipes which may have attributed some to the 5 horsepower bump- the significant changes however were the side curtain air bags, front and rear lights, new wheels, and most important fit and finish upgrades!

2nd Generation MDX from 2007  until now- has set the SUV world on fire! Wider track and longer wheelbase ! The introduction of the ACE system or Advance Compatibility Engineering was crucial. The 2nd Generation MDX will actually absorb the impact of various vehicle types throughout thee front crumple zones. Crash Energy is dissipated around the cabin, to help minimize the risk of injuries! Horsepower shot up to 300, and sport tuned suspension were tested in Germany’s Nurburing Race Track! Variable Torque Management grew into “Super Handling All Wheel Drive”- which is the most advance AWD system in the world.  The 2007 and up MDX come in 3 packages!

1. Technology-Acura/Alpine DVD-based satellite GPS navigation system with AcuraLink satellite communications with real-time traffic reporting (XM NavTraffic), a 410-watt Acura/ELS DTS Surround audio system with XM Satellite Radio, rearview camera, and a remote powered liftgate, operated either from the key’s remote, inside the car or directly from the lift gate

2. The Sport Package featured active suspension dampers (co-developed by Honda and Delphi) that dynamically improves handling according to road conditions with a button in the center stack to switch to Sport/Comfort modes. This Comfort/Sport mode uses magneto rheological dampers, which change their characteristics when a magnetic field is introduced (usually in milliseconds). The Sport package also includes unique 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels, perforated leather seats and the items in the Technology package.

3. The Entertainment Package offers a flip-down 9-inch (230 mm) LCD screen with 2 wireless Dolby Digital headphones, second-row heated outboard seats, and a unique center-stack silver trim. The Entertainment Package is only available on Sport or Technology Package models as compared to the 1st Generation MDX where the Entertainment Package was available as a standalone package on Touring Models.

For 2008 the MDX received a new auto-dimming rearview mirror.

2009 Acura MDX

The 2009 MDX had added more upgrades to the navigation system and there are two new colors added. The power tailgate, previously available only with the Entertainment package, is now included with Technology and Sport packages.

The 2010 MDX gets a facelift, adopting Acura’s new “Power Plenum” grille that debuted on its 2009 model year sedans. The most important upgrades to the 2010 model are a new 6-speed SportShift automatic transmission. An Advance package is now available that includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Damper Suspension, 19 inch wheels and tires, Ventilated seats and paddle shifters. Non-navigation equipped MDX models now have a rear view camera monitor located in the rear view mirror.

The 10th Annual Carland Toy Drive is just around the corner. Honda Carland, Acura Carland, and Honda Carland North all host a Customer Appreciation Night in December. In the past we would raffle of Prizes to show our appreciation to our customers. The last couple of years we have added a twist, we now solicit our business partners for donations that we can use as prizes, these prizes will be raffled off during each event!  So, when our customers bring in unwrapped and new toys, we exchange them with a raffle ticket. The Carland Group has the best customers! Last year we were able to provide over 70 local Atlanta families with a heartfelt Thanksgiving Dinner. What is taken for granted, and emulated in the movie “Blindside”- Thanksgiving is the realization of the true magnificence of our friends and families!
